Commentaires : Tracing the career of Carole King, and endorsed by the beloved Grammy winner herself, Beautiful was the feel good hit of 2014 and continues to wow audiences nightly.

Since its Broadway debut, the production has garnered a host of Tony and Drama Desk Awards, as well as the 2015 Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, and it's no wonder the bio-musical has been a hit with audiences too
Presse : Les critiques sont bonnes:

"Friendly, formulaic bio-musical." Ben Brantley for New York Times

"Too bad a great musical isn’t only about the music. The book is crucial, too — and this show’s connect-the-dots story line is so simplistic that the extravagantly talented King’s life emerges as a mundane version of the long-suffering little woman." Joe Dziemianowicz for New York Daily News

"The book is often heavy-handed, and Marc Bruni’s production only occasionally resurrects the bubbly verve and energy of those glorious songs." Elisabeth Vincentelli for New York Post

"If you go to "Beautiful" for the songs, you'll probably have a great time. Just don't expect anything more." Robert Feldberg for The Record

"Fans will find "Beautiful" some kind of wonderful show." Toma Torre for NY1

"Serves up a tasty slice of Baby Boomer heaven." Michael Sommers for Newsroom Jersey

"This is entertaining boomer bait that elevates its by-the-numbers narrative with great songs.." David Rooney for The Hollywood Reporter

"Whenever this bio-musical stumbles over Douglas McGrath’s flat-footed book, helmer Marc Bruni rushes to the rescue with some snazzy piece of stagecraft for the sleek production numbers." Marilyn Stasio for Variety

Avec : Katie Brayben (Carole King), Cassidy Janson (Carole King from 30 Nov), Alan Morrissey (Gerry Goffin), Ian McIntosh (Barry Mann), Lorna Want (Cynthia Weil), Glynis Barber (Genie Klein), Diane Keen (Genie Klein from 30 Nov), Gary Trainor (Don Kirshner), Vivien Carter, Ed Currie, Oliver Lidert, Fela Lufadeju, Tanya Nicole-Edwards, Terel Nugent , Jay Perry, Tanisha Spring, Lucy St. Louis, Danielle Steers, Dylan Turner, Joanna Woodwood, Andy Coxon, Jason Denton, Michael Anthony Duke, Joel Harper-Jackson, Rosie Heath, Aisha Jawando, Hannah Jay-Allan and Leigh Lothian.
Presse : "A workmanlike effort which has done great business on Broadway, and is likely to do a roaring trade in London too where the theatrical market for sounds-of-the-Sixties nostalgia has never been so buoyant." Dominic Cavendish for The Telegraph

"The actress [Katie Brayben as Carole King] gives a wonderfully endearing performance that seems to soar beyond mere impersonation as it communicates King's warmth, modesty, self-deprecating humour, and touching integrity and projects the straight-from-the-heart candour of that nasal, husky, plaintively yearning singing voice." Paul Taylor for The Independent

"While the show is pleasant enough, it struck me as the theatrical equivalent of one of those bland Hollywood biopics in which a local boy or girl makes it to the top of the showbiz ladder. The show lacks the drama that some of us still hunger for in a musical." Micheal Billington for The Guardian

"Its Americanised, airbrushy niceness aside, this show is sweet and happy as pie. It milks the tear ducts, gives you a long list of searing songs and will send many a couple home arm-in-arm to the very suburbs Carole King adored." Quentin Letts for The Daily Mail

"Those who like their entertainment edgy may regard Beautiful as polite to the point of being tame. But this gently enjoyable show deserves to find an audience — and will surely enchant Baby Boomers nostalgic for the sounds of the Sixties." Henry Hitchings for The Evening Standard

Théâtre: Drury Lane Theatre (Londres - Angleterre)
Durée : 1 an 8 mois 2 semaines

Première Preview : Friday 06 May 2011
Première : Tuesday 14 June 2011
Dernière : Sunday 24 February 2013
Mise en scène : Jason Moore
Chorégraphie : Josh Prince
Producteur :
Avec : Nigel Lindsay (Shrek), Lord Farquaad (Nigel Harman), Richard Blackwood (Donkey), Amanda Holden (Princess Fiona), Jonathan Stewart (Pinocchio), Stephanie Bron (Snow Queen), Lee William-Davies (Wizard), Rosanna Hyland (Little Red Riding Hood), Bradley Jaden (Papa Bear), Jon-Scott Clark (Peter Pan), Delroy Atkinson (White Rabbit), Alice Fearn (Sugar Plum Fairy), Michael Watson (Jack) - from a total cast of 38 , s.
Commentaires : This West End version had been scaled down, given a new opening scene, and undergone a series of changes to make it more suitable for a British audience. A number of the fairy-tale characters were changed, and several songs were cut to shorten the running time of the show. Most of the reviews were enthusiastic, with especial praise for the praise for the “hysterically funny” Nigel Harman. In October 2011 Kimberley Walsh (from the pop group Girls Aloud) took over the role of Princess Fiona when Amanda Holden announced her pregnancy. Further cast changes occurred at the end of February 2012, when Dean Chisnall took over the role of Shrek, and Neil McDermott took over as Lord Farquaad. In May 2012 Carley Stenson took over the role of Princess Fiona. The show extended its booking period and announced it will close in February 2013.
Presse : "Blessed with a likeable mixture of wit and humanity...Shrek sets out to do no more than entertain, and in this it succeeds handsomely...Shrek certainly doesn’t rank among the musical greats, but it offers an engaging couple of hours of family fun" Charles Spencer for The Daily Telegraph
"Sentiment, beauty and haunting melody are absent. But Shrek is energetically amusing." Quentin Letts for The Daily Mail
"Though there's warmth and wit here, it's not a monster hit." Henry Hitchings for The Evening Standard
"What I love principally about the show, directed with great charm and elating zip by Jason Moore and Rob Ashford, is its delightfully uncynical freshness of spirit. " Paul Taylor for The Independent
"Although Shrek stems from the 2001 DreamWorks film, it is genuinely theatrical, generous-spirited and mercifully free of the sensory bombardment that afflicts some of its rivals. What it lacks is memorable tunes." Michael Billington for The Guardian
